Setting Realistic Goals for your eBay Business

Published by admin under E-commerce

Setting Realistic Goals for your eBay Business
Setting goals sometimes seems like a useless task. It would seem if you want to do something, you just get to it and finish. Though that sounds easy enough, I think there is more to it than that. Having something to work towards is important. If everyone s business plan, or goal, were simply, Make More Money most businesses would not succeed. Though you can t practically say, My eBay business is just like Microsoft , I believe it is a mentality that gets us where we want to be. Success is measured subjectively, relative to each person. For some, hitting the million dollar mark is success, while for others it is the simple fact of being able to quit their job to stay at home and have that freedom. It s important to establish what it means to be successful for you. Don t just think about it, write it down. Know what you want, and don t forget it. Ideas in our head almost always seem to drift away if we don t manifest them somehow and sometimes immediate action isn t possible so simply write it down. The practical thing to do, however, when it comes to eBay, is to measure your current business, or, if you re just starting, to know how to measure it. This means taking into account your total sales and everything that goes along with that, such as your eBay fees, Paypal fees, what percentage of auctions ended successful compared to how many items were listed and the average price each item sold for. If this sounds overwhelming, take a step bank and look at the whole picture. If you re an established business, it s as simple as measuring each statistic above within any given time period. Take auctions listed each week, month, and depending on how old or young your business is, each year. If you ve just started, each week you list, measure these statistics after each of your listings end. This way, you ll know which items are selling well, where you can change certain aspects of your business, and, most importantly, how much profit you re making. One of the most important parts of measuring your business statistics is to know eBay fees. I sometimes get excited about how much I ve sold and looking at the price on My eBay, think that I did well. Then I pay my eBay fees and realize I did not do quite as well as I had thought. If you have an accurate knowledge of eBay fees, this will increase your potential for profit. Of course, you re wondering what all this has to do with setting a goal for your eBay business. Pretty much everything. If you know your business inside out, you can set realistic goals that you ll know which areas of your business to improve. Making more money as a goal, then not knowing how to get to that goal, leaves you stagnant, and, worst of all, making the same amount of money. So, define what success is to you and write it down. Then measure every aspect of your business, whether you just finished your very first week of listings ever, or you ve been in business for a few years, or ten years. Then use that knowledge to meet realist financial goals in accordance with your own definition of success.

10 Great Ways to Source Low Cost Products for eBay.
10 Great Ways to Source Low Cost Products for eBay.

So you’re having trouble finding stock cheaply enough to sell it for a good profit? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

Garage sales. The chances are you’ve gone most of your life seeing ads for these and ignoring them. Start going to as many as you can. You won’t find good things at every one, but when you find one person with good stuff, make them an offer for the lot ? they’ll be so happy about it that you can get a real bargain.

Markets. If your area has a market, then go there and look around for anything good. You could buy it there if it’s cheap enough, or try to make friends with the market traders and find out who their suppliers are.

Pawn shops. Pawn shops don’t usually know what to do with the junk they accumulate (unless it’s jewellery, of course). Generally, they put their stock out on the shelves haphazardly, hoping that someday someone with a little money will just happen to come in, search around and buy wildly obscure things. Get them to offer you a discount for bulk.

Real auctions. Go to a real auction, as the chances are that you can resell things for more than they will sell them. After all, they only have a few hundred people in that room ? you have a few million to sell to!

Local newspapers. Place an ad in the local paper that reads ?I pay cash for [your item type]?, with your phone number. If you can afford it, make it a big display ad, so it’ll be noticed.

Ad boards. Get one of those little ads in the grocery store.

Friends. Ask your friends if they have anything they’d like to sell you, and ask them to spread the word to their friends.

Become known. Give out business cards, mention to people what you do. The chances are that you’ll come across someone who’ll say ?Oh, really? I’ve got a load of [item] I don’t want?.

Shops. This might be a little surprising, but some real shops even sell things more cheaply than they sell on eBay. Take a look around your local deep discounter, and pay special attention to any shop that takes trade-ins from customers. The chances are they take a loss on trade-ins as a promotion, and are dying to get rid of that stock.

And finally: eBay! When you’re looking at the completed items view, you’ll notice the massive range of prices that items can sell for on eBay. Try taking the highest-priced item and searching for it on its own, then sort by lowest price first: I can almost guarantee that you’ll see an auction for the same item where it sold for almost nothing. The trick is to find these flawed auctions before they close, win them using a bid sniping service, and then turn around and resell the item.

After all that trouble, though, when do sell the item you might find that a buyer leaves you a feedback rating you just don’t think is fair. The next email will show you what to do about it.

Strange Goings On Over At eBay
What makes people list some very weird and outrageous items on Ebay?

Is it their ego that drives them? To think that thousands of people will read and maybe even bid on their ridiculous offerings - is that it?

What sort of offerings can be categorised as ’strange’ you might ask?

Well, this author has seen auctions for: virginity (this was removed because let’s face it - that’s prostitution and definitely not something that Ebay really want to promote!), a hilarious auction for a stick - yes a stick! The offending stick was part of a chair which broke when the seller sat on it! He was so outraged that he decided it would be a saleable item. And starting at .01c, he was right! He actually did sell it for close to $1.00 …

Now that doesn’t mean you should all rush out to your local forest and collect firewood and give each piece an interesting history about which to write and offer up on Ebay!

Also seen was a piece of toast! This was so ridiculous, that one TV station in Australia featured that piece of toast on an evening comedy program and the hit counter went berserk after that! So it seems that anything, which could be classified as ’strange’, has a place on Ebay.

Anyone got any old false teeth perhaps? I’m sure even those would get a bid! Or how about that most horrible ‘thing’ you bought on Ebay, which could be classified as the worst, buying choice you ever made?

I’ve got one of those - what self-respecting Ebay supporter hasn’t?

Thinking it might be fun to buy a wig after having my long hair cut short, I turned to - you guessed it - Ebay - to spend my cash on a wig. Boy oh boy, what a disaster that turned out to be! I purchased this gorgeous looking blonde, long haired, curly looking piece which promised to make me look sexy and turn heads! The only heads this disaster would have turned would have been in true ‘Exorcist’ style!

This ‘thing’ which was advertised as “New, with Tags” was an absolutely revolting disaster! It was made of what can only be described as raffia, was orange in colour and was ‘glued’ in bits to the mesh which fits ‘all sizes of head’ - all but mine, that is! Too small, too horrible, too funny for words! It now sits on the corner piece of our banister - I keep thinking I’ll paint some eyes and a big red mouth there. It certainly has been a talking point with lots of laughs and wise cracks at ‘mum’s worst Ebay purchase’! It almost seems a shame to sell it now in the ‘weird’ category because ‘Sally’ seems to now have a home here!

Ebay - not just a place to buy and sell - a place to find outrageously funny odds and sods to keep readers of all ages amused!

Ebay's Most Misunderstood and Under-Used Area
It seems that everyone in the world is familiar with, or has at least heard of Ebay. It’s the world’s foremost online auction site. It has made it’s presence known in a multitude of countries including the USA, Canada, UK and Australia, with many more emerging sites in Europe, and beyond.

What most people don’t know (because they don’t know how or where to look) is that Ebay also provides a service exclusive to eager online BUYERS - I’m talking about the folks that have a specific item in mind that they want to PURCHASE IMMEDIATELY, and these buyers don’t have the time to troll the internet, nor the millions of listings on Ebay to find them!

This exclusive area for Ebay buyers is called the “Want It Now” listings.
It’s also a gold mine for any seller who’s interested in furthering an online business. Any listing in the “Want It Now” area specifies what item is highly sought and even what they are willing to pay for it.

Most Ebay clients who have an auction running to sell an item find that they are never, if scarcely, even noticed… So why not have a look at the “Want It Now” section of Ebay? A seller might then get hundreds of ideas about items to sell that he/she is already storing or has access to.

Now, reading all of the “Want It Now” pages of desired items may take several hours, or days. I know, because I’ve tried. And these listings change all the time. But I managed to find a quick solution to this, by way of a little-known program called “AuctionYen”. I’ve tried this out and found that it brings back real-time results from the Ebay’s “Want It Now” listings, by category and most sought search-terms.

I also have a surplus of items in my garage, and dislike the idea of a bunch of early-bird strangers showing up at my home to pick out items that I’d like to get rid of, via garage sale. It’s been much easier for me to search for the items that people want most, and sell to them directly via the AuctionYen method.

History of e-Bay
e-Bay was created in September 1995, by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who was living in San Jose. He wanted his site, then called Auction Web to be an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first websits of its kind in the world. The name e-Bay comes from the doman Omidyar used for his site. His company’s name was Echo Bay and the e-Bay auction web was originally just one part of Echo Bay’s website at e-bay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar’s broken laser printer, which he got $14.00 for. Now that you know the history of e-bay perhaps you’d like to know how it could work for you? How To Make 1,056.00 A Week On EBay Clicking A Button
Copyright 2006 George Watts “Do you work 40 hours or more each week? Are you stressed? In debt? If so, I know how you feel. In Feburary 2004 I was working 60 hours a week on eBay. My life consisted of a monotonus routine of…. 1) finding products to sell 2) packing products 3) posting products 4) filling my appartment with products One Phone Call Made Me Financially Free… After spending several hours packing the products I had sold the previous night I had an ‘Aha’ moment. Not sure where it came from? But it just came. For some reaon I picked up the phone and called my main supplier of products I sold on eBay (antique reproductions). The Question… I asked sheepishly, as if the guy on the other end of the phone would laugh at me and tell me to jump off a particularly high bridge, “Would you send the products straight to my customers?” The Answer… The guy said something amazing. He said, “Yes”. Over Night I Had Suddenly Become… 1) Time Free 2) Financially Free 3) 100% mobile I could literally operate my eBay business anywhere in the world that had a compute & internet connection. I immediately started making more and more money while working less and less! My whole time was now spent looking for ’suppliers that would ship straight to my customers’. I didn’t have to do any more work. But there is only so much shopping and golf you can play before you start going slightly mad. 60 to 6! I went from working 60 hours + a week on eBay to less than 6 due to one simple phone call!!!!! I no longer had to… 1) I no longer had to drive to my suppliers. 2) I no longer had to inventory products. 3) I no longer had to spend hours packing products. 4) I no longer had to spend hours standing in long lines at post offices. 5) I no longer had to spend any money purchasing the products! #5 was a revelation to me. Because all of a sudden I didn’t need any money to make money! I simply used my customer’s money to pay for the product and gave myself a nice tidy profit. Friends & Family Came A Knockin’ All of sudden I had loads of money and loads of spare time. And my friends and family wanted to know how I did it.
